Mental Health — Sitting With What Is

“Thanks, but it seems so wrong to celebrate anything these days.” — said an employee to me on a zoom the other day who was about to get married.

It totally made sense to me — people are struggling on so many levels and it’s a real human challenge to know how to navigate. At times, it’s hard to sit with and try to feel a little more ok with what is.

I am a week “late” in sharing this piece based on the fact that World Mental Health Day 2020 , took place Saturday, October 10th — however know we don’t need just one day to talk about this very real topic, though we do need to raise awareness of the fact that many people are struggling to keep their heads above water these days. It’s a perfect storm; considering the rampant sense of insecurity, instability and general unknown that exists in the wake of Covid 19, we need all hands on deck here to lean in, take note and spring into action!

We have heard it said so often in the past 8 months — these are unprecedented times. Many people are facing layoffs, dealing with their children being homeschooled, juggling trying to integrate home and work-life existing within the same four walls…. all while lacking social interactions (seeing family and friends and hugging) that would usually help to alleviate the sense of isolation and frustration we have all, undoubtedly, experienced at some point…
